Ganim’s Watering Tips
When to Water
Old Farmers Trick: Step on the lawn. If it bounces back quickly, no need to water. If the lawn crunches down, it needs water badly.
Do not water when humidity and temperatures are both high. This can cause fungus.
Even if the lawn turns brown, it does not mean your lawn is dying. It is in a dormant stage and will come back after a first hard rainfall. Water only during dry weather conditions.
How to Water
Water lawn once a week during dry spells. Apply one inch of water each time.
Testing for water accumulation can be done with a pie plate or small can (cat food or tuna can works). Set plate or can at the outside of the perimeter of the area to be watered, check time and turn on water. When one inch of water has accumulated in it, check time to see how long it took to fill. That’s how long you should water that area of lawn. If you have multiple watering areas, do it again.
Timing of watering is crucial. Water early in morning and complete before 9am.
Night watering is not recommended as it can cause fungus to develop.
A Few Key Items for a Beautiful Summer Lawn
Water properly. Raise your blade mower to 3 inches off the ground if possible.
A taller lawn shades itself and protects the lawn from weeds and dryness.
Remember a good lawn program and care takes 2-3 years for favorable results!
